Quick update: We're back from holiday and are finishing off our latest joomla project, as soon as we do we will be starting work on the new v2 features.

If you want your homepage content items to appear without a Title, go to your menu manager in the Administration backend, select Main Menu / Home and select "no" for "Item Titles". You will now be able to turn titles on/off from the individual content items parameters.
